In the West, we’re taught to think of “wisdom (panna) as something that is primarily intellectual and compassion (karuna) as something that is primarily emotional, and that these two things are separate and even incompatible. We’re led to believe that meak, gentle emotion gets in the way of clear, logical wisdom. But this is not the understanding of the wisdom traditions.
By deepening ones yoga, meditation or spiritual practice with awareness we naturally cultivate these two qualities. We cannot be truly be wise without compassion and for one to be compassionate, an innate wisdom is required. These are the two wings of awakening to a deeper experience with life.
Join A—SPACE co-founder and renowned meditation teacher Manoj Dias for an afternoon of self-inquiry and self-exploration as we look at the ways our various practices can help us integrate wisdom and compassion into our lives.
About Manoj Dias
Manoj is an animated speaker, humble teacher and always a friend. He knows that Theravada Buddhism is too vast and wise for any single person to own. So, he’s learnt from many of the great spiritual teachers of our time including Channa Dassanayaka, Sharon Salzberg and Jack Kornfield. Once tethered to a life of self-management, rather than self- awareness, Manoj has been transformed by every breath of this practice, knowing that awareness leads to healing, from the inside, out. Through mindfulness and meditation, he’s helped hundreds of people trade mania for pause, so that they may live fearlessly in honour of a happier and more meaningful life.
