This workshop will look at the essential principles of the Pilates Method as they relate to Yoga Asana.
The Pilates Method of body conditioning was first conceived by Joseph Pilates in the 1920s. More recently, its emphasis on the mind-body connection has awakened a renewed interest in this type of fitness training – a technique he called “contrology”. Yoga was developed in northern India over 5000 years ago.
We will learn to view traditional asana shapes in new ways and look at our habitual movement patterns with new eyes!
After sustaining an injury, Tamsin started her Pilates journey in early 2018 with Polestar Pilates. After doing a few sessions, she was hooked and went on to study with Polestar later that year under the guidance of Catherine Giannitto, Audrey Marion and Luisa Lins. Combined with a regular yoga practice which has improved from Pilates gaining more flexibility, stability and mobility to function more effectively in everyday movement. Understanding the benefits of Pilates, which will help balance out the impact of our Modern Day lives through movement and self awareness of body and mind. Pilates will help benefit your health in all areas as we improve our posture, increase strength, flexibility and increased range of movement. Tamsin has since completed her Mat and Reformer Pilates training and is now teaching at various studios.
