Foundations of Yoga

Awaken the spine.

The spine is the backbone of our yoga practice.

The Foundations of Yoga workshop will take you safely into the depths of back bending and shoulder-stands in a way that ensures longevity in your practice and safety on the mat.

Backbending is a way to strengthen all the muscles in your back body and legs, awaken the spine, and light up the nervous system with stimulation.

Shoulder-stand benefits are numerous, the pose affecting almost every system in the body, including the musculoskeletal, nervous, endocrine, circulatory, respiratory, and digestive systems.

During this 3-hour workshop, expect to:

  • Learn the building blocks of alignment and strength to safely practice back-bending as part of Power Living’s Vinyasa flow.
  • Explore the principles of back-bending in Upward Facing Dog and how you carry these through to more advanced variations.
  • Understand how to enter into heart-opening postures with more awareness.
  • Learn how to practice inversions safely and with modifications for your needs.
  • Have the opportunity to ask questions and explore special postures in an open, safe environment.

Suitable for all levels of practitioner. This workshop is essential for anyone within their first three months of practice. It’s also great for the experienced yogi looking for a refresher or how to take their practice to the next level.

Come PLAY, learn and have fun!

Meet Jordan Berger

American soul, Aussie tan, Californian smile… That’s Jordan! He moved to Australia in 2012 for a three-month contract to open a cocktail bar for the Merivale Group and six years later he’s still here…and teaching YOGA! Jordan’s mom was a yoga teacher for many years while he was in high school in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and at that time, Yoga was definitely the “weird thing mom did” and he gravitated more to other forms of fitness and making music. Fast forward a few years and his mom got him a private session with her teacher, David Newman, as a high school graduation gift and things changed pretty much immediately from there on.
