The Courageous Heart : expansive backbends for openness and strength
with Tessa Leon
The word courage comes from the latin root ‘cor’ which means ‘heart’. When we physically open up our soft underbelly we expose our heart to the world. Back bending is a metaphor for leaning into the unknown. It requires faith to stay open and receptive in moments of fear, doubt or uncertainty. For many of us, it’s often easier to close off and run away when we feel vulnerable. These poses teach us trust; that our inner strength will support us through whatever comes.
This 3 hour workshop will help you access all layers of opening for your body, mind and heart. You’ll begin with discussion, meditation and journaling and then shift into a strong asana practice to understand the anatomy of backends. Learn how to develop deep core strength, practice new poses and explore supported assists for an embodied experience of your most expansive and profound openness. To finish, you’ll enter a heart-centred yoga nidra and leave feeling illuminated.
This workshop will cater for all levels of willing practitioners. Come cultivate the capacity to stay open, receptive, and trust yourself through your practice, and your life.
