ABOUT THE WORKSHOP
Heart opening, fun, intelligent and invigorating! This workshop will explore several back bending asanas with optimal form and safety in mind. Initially, we will dissect the anatomy of back bending and the different muscle systems involved (like the psoas system) and how they can help or hinder our back bends. We will then briefly discuss the philosophy behind the power of back bending before practicing an intelligent sequence that will guide us towards ‘deeper’ backbends. Expect to learn and play with new backbends, understand different alignment philosophies, and ultimately ‘deepen’ your backbend while keeping your body and spine safe. Open to all levels.
Duncan began practicing Ashtanga yoga when he was 16 years old and has been teaching Vinyasa yoga in Canada since 2007. He attended University of Guelph for Biomedical Sciences and later transferred to Ryerson University in Toronto to pursue his love of dance in their competitive BFA Performance Dance program. With a mind for science and a love for movement, Duncan teaches intelligent and alignment based vinyasa classes that are sequenced with mindful creativity.
He has facilitated several 200hr and 500hr Vinyasa YTT courses, and runs retreats and intensives internationally. He continues to train and practice under his teacher Annie Carpenter, creator of SmartFlow Yoga.
