This workshop will explore open chain joint mobility and spinal waves with a specific focus on how to use these techniques for deepening your backbending practice. We will release the key areas of the front body with a combination of stretching techniques and build more active flexibility and end range control. Explore and experiment with two very different approaches to back bends – the contortion school approach and the belly dance/breakdance/capoeira schools – so that you have more ways to move backwards.
Mark began studying yoga in 1997. He’s a Certified Ashtanga Yoga teacher, trained and certified by Ashtanga master, the late K. Pattabhi Jois. Since 1999, Mark has made regular visits to India to practice with his guru and Pattabhi Jois’ grandson, R. Sharath. Mark has also studied intensively with Eileen Hall, Richard Freeman, and Dena Kingsberg. Always looking to deepen his practice, Mark continues to learn from masters in various disciplines. He threads his love of yoga, surfing, teaching, and music into his practice and teaching style and hopes to inspire others to develop and live their deepest passions. His classes are uniquely focused on helping each student reach their full potential in life.
