Kate Nicholls first discovered yoga when she was living in England in 2006. She bought a couple of Kundalini yoga DVDs off Amazon to practice in her tiny room and they became her lifeline while living away from family and suffering from severe anxiety and depression.

Kate returned to NZ in 2010 and tried a couple of studios over the years but nothing motivated her to keep going. As soon as she walked into the Power Living studio, Kate instantly felt a sense of community and connection, and has made yoga part of her daily life ever since

What is your favourite Asana posture? Why?
I love crow pose. There is a balance between strength and faith that makes me feel strong and free.

Share with us a life turning point and the favourite lesson learnt?
A huge turning point for me was taking my 200 hour teacher training with Power Living. I realised I had been holding myself back, keeping the powerful part of me squished down beneath layers of fear. Since then I have learnt it’s ok to be powerful and even a bit weird – it’s only when you let your true self shine that you can live a full life and connect fully with others!

What turns you on?
A cup of tea with a good book, and great conversations with great people (even better if great food is involved too).
