Name: Jess Oma
Jess began her yoga journey at the ripe old age of 15 in what can only be described as an “eclectic” style class at her local gym. Experimenting with a variety of styles Jess found her second home at Perth Bikram yoga. Since it’s opening in 2009, Jess has followed the Perth studio through its journey from Bikram yoga to Power Living and is well and truly part of the furniture. When she’s not on her mat, behind the desk at reception or teaching a class, Jess can be found with her dogs down at the beach or at the hospital where she works as a nurse.
Jess was one of the first crew to complete the P.L.A.Y. 200hr Power Vinyasa Teacher Training on the West Coast in August 2014. As a facilitator Jess shares her passion for the ability of yoga to connect people to their bodies, to their self and to each other. Jess’ classes are a balance of intensity and lightness, you can expect to be taken to your limit but never at the compromise of a smile.
Getting to know the crew:
What is your favourite Asana posture?
Gomukasana (Cow faced pose). It’s a bit masochistic but that intense sensation as you go deep into the external rotators. Phwoar it can take my breath away but for some reason I never want to come out of this pose.
What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
Whatever it is that David Attenborough does …I’d do that. Getting paid to completely immerse myself in the different landscapes/cultures/wildlife of the world as I study the wisdom of Mother Nature.
When you are not extending, bending and sweating what do you like to do?
Get outside! Whether it’s swimming down the beach, hiking through the bush, riding around the river, walking around the park I love to be outdoors making the most of the awesome Perth weather!
