Name: Amanda Cao
As a former martial artist and big fan of being upside down, Amanda appreciates the power of mindful movement for the body, mind and soul. She fell in love with yoga as soon as she started practicing at the age of 14. Through the self-inquiry and exploration that yoga encourages, yoga for Amanda transformed from simple physical exercise to breaking down barriers, not holding back and living a life of focus, loving-kindness and freedom.
Amanda is a physiotherapist with a love of biomechanics, neuroscience and helping others to their potential. Combining this with her love of yoga by becoming a yoga teacher seemed like the most natural and wonderful step! Amanda has a specialty in yoga anatomy and loves to geek out over the physiology of asana. Her classes are strong and intelligent; yet also reflect her playful personality.

Share with us a life turning point and the favourite lesson learnt?
A 5-week physiotherapy placement in India was a life turning point for me. It was full of wonderful experiences as well as some very challenging experiences, and so taught me how to be adaptable and roll with the punches. It also taught me to appreciate all the little things in life and make the most of every situation.
When you are not extending, bending and sweating what do you like to do?
Hang out with my goofball of a dog, Chewie! Also, patting ALL the dogs!
What would be your today’s soundtrack for life?
Anything by LaBrassBanda, an amazing German brass band! I fell in love with their music and energy when I stumbled across them at WOMAD this year. I liked them so much that I went to all their events and got a record signed by them – and I don’t even own a record player.
