My introduction to yoga was watching my mother contorting her body and breathing loudly on the lounge room floor and her good friend doing strange things with his stomach (nauli). I promptly concluded that they were exceptionally odd and was glad I did not inherit any of their traits.
Fast forward to my late teens and a Bikram studio opened up near my work. Obviously the earlier exposure had rubbed off a bit as I decided to give it a try and was hooked from my first class. Not just by the asana, but also the yoga community that attended.
When I moved from Auckland to Perth I continued doing Bikram at the North Perth studio and transitioned to Vinyasa and further into the actual practice of yoga when Adam and the team became part of Power Living.
What is your favourite Asana posture? Why?
Balasana and Savasana because I have learned the most about myself and truly discovered the power of yoga through setting my intention at the beginning of class and allowing the integration at the end.
What profession other than yours would you like to attempt?
Engineer or scientist.
What does the term modern yogi mean to you?
A person who can take the best of modern medicine and understand and eastern spiritual/yogic teachings to better the life of themselves, the people around them and the planet.
