Do you want to develop your personal practice? Want to know how to become a yoga teacher?

Training to become a certified Power Living yoga teacher is a commitment that spans an intensive three-month period of study and practice.

Lead by the Senior Facilitation team, our 200 hour yoga teacher training is one of the most comprehensive courses available, and the foundation to becoming a powerful, effective and inspirational yoga teacher.

Similar to Gandhi’s famous quote “my life is my message” we believe each teacher’s life experience is the source from which they teach, and therefore their message to their students. A lot of our training focuses on personal transformation, so that your authenticity and experience are the foundations of your teaching. 200 hour certification requires successful completion of the below modules.

If you want to find out more or register your interest, please contact the programs team. Or if you’re ready to take the leap and apply for the 200hr yoga teacher training program, register online.

We also run regular Teacher Training Information Sessions at all studios. These sessions allow you to experience the powerful teaching style you’ll learn as part of the program, plus ask questions and connect with recent graduates on their experiences. Check out the Events page for details of the next session near you.

In addition, you will complete specific teacher training sessions. These will focus on awakening the teacher within through an understanding of how to teach asana, meditation, and knowledge of yoga philosophy. You’ll also undergo a gentle cleanse with amazing vegetarian food that can be combined to suit all body types.

Our promise is you’ll leave the week feeling strong, inspired and with a renewed passion for life.

Module 3 – Assisting Program

20 hours (all contact hours)

Power Living’s Assisting Program is a world-class training opportunity to learn from the best in the business. This program was the first of its kind in Australasia.

The aim of the course is to teach:

  • Safe, effective assisting and adjusting techniques
  • Different types of assists
  • Safe alignment, joint movements and muscles engaged in postures
  • How to support and enhance the practice experience for the student

You will:

  • Enhance your teaching in the classroom and working one on one with students
  • Gain confidence as an assistant teacher
  • Develop a deeper understanding of your personal yoga practice
  • Have opportunities to join the Power Living team in the studio

The course is designed to teach assistants how to help increase a student’s awareness of their alignment and body, through touch, presence and direction. At Power Living, we are committed to teaching a dynamic practice with safe postures: our assisting techniques support this, rather than seeking to bring students into the ‘perfect’ pose or contortionism.

The Assisting Program fosters a karmic yoga atmosphere in studio and on retreats, where assistants act in service to the students to help enhance their practice. The assistant plays a unique role during a yoga class as their hands and energy serve as bridges between the teacher’s words and the student’s own physical experience.

Note: If you completed the Power Living teacher training course before 2009, another teacher training course, or are interested in refreshing and enhancing your assisting skills, you may apply to participate in this program alone. No previous experience is required to participate in the Power Living Assisting Program. If you are not enrolled in a current Power Living 200 hour yoga teacher training program, the cost for Module Three – Assisting Program is $399.

Upon successful completion of the full course, you will receive a 200hr accreditation from Yoga Alliance (USA). This will allow you to apply to be a Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) through Yoga Alliance (USA) and obtain Provisional Membership with the Yoga Teachers Association of Australia (YTAA). Following registration with either body you will be able to obtain insurance covering you for yoga teaching. YTAA then requires you complete an extra 150 hours training with a certified training course within three years to obtain full membership with them. This extra 150 hours training can also be completed with Power Living.

Power Living’s yoga teacher training programs are run by the senior facilitation team so you’ll be safe in the knowledge that you’re learning from the best. With thousands of hours of yoga training amongst them, each facilitator delivers the courses with passion, experience and in a way which will set you up ready to teach.

What yoga experience do I need to do yoga teacher training?

We recommend a minimum of six months’ dedicated Vinyasa yoga practice before enrolling in the course. If your background is in a style other than this, we recommend you have a minimum of one year’s dedicated personal practice before applying, plus some experience of Vinyasa yoga. If you haven’t done Vinyasa before, we recommend trying out some classes in one of our studios to make sure it’s the right fit for you.

Do I have to complete all three modules to gain certification?

All teacher trainees must complete all three courses modules outlined above. The program has been designed specifically to meet the Yoga Alliance and Yoga Australia 200 hour teacher training requirements. Missing out on a course component or not completing it in time would mean you have not completed the required number of contact hours and areas of study, and will not gain full 200 hour certification.

What if I can’t attend all the modules as outlined in the program schedule?

We strongly recommend you only enrol in a program you are able to complete in the allotted timeframes.

Under rare circumstances, you may be able to complete Module 2 – Retreat Immersion or Module Three – Assisting Program after you have completed Module One – Core Program: Laying the Foundations (less the examinations). These modules must be completed within one calendar year. Any requests to complete these modules outside the scheduled timetable will be considered on a case-by-case basis. For the best possible results, stick to the dates provided in the program overview.

Do you offer any accelerated training programs for students living out of state or overseas?

The pathway to the 200 hour certification must be followed as outlined, by completing all three modules within the minimum three-month time period.

The program has been designed to offer the best possible training to our students.  We believe the minimum three-month time period gives trainees the best opportunity to integrate their learning, practice teaching, take classes at Power Living studios and become immersed in the community.

The week-long retreat is a required component of the course, offering our trainees the opportunity to experience an intense, full-immersion learning environment, resulting in a hugely transformative personal experience. Students travel interstate to attend many of our courses, and we can assure you it does work, it is possible, and putting in the extra miles is totally worth it.

Outside the program tuition, are there any additional costs on the 200hr yoga teacher training course?

The course fee includes your Power Living Training manual, all lectures and classes, plus your accommodation and meals during the Retreat Immersion.

Studio membership to practice at Power Living is not included in the tuition cost. If you are not already a member, you can purchase a membership or a casual pass for the duration of the course should you wish to practice at our studios.

The only additional expenses are the five text books (recommended), which can be purchased through Power Living and your travel to and from the Retreat Immersion.
